Project Spotlight: Town of Malden Survey
We were selected by the Town of Malden to survey the entire Town to establish block and property corners for the rebuilding effort. The survey is being funded through the Washington State Department of Commerce. On Labor Day weekend 2020, Malden was devastated when the Babb Road fire destroyed 80% of the homes in the town of roughly 200 people. The fire started when a tree snapped and fell into power lines operated by Avista. The power lines struck each other, igniting the tree, and less than an hour later flames were rapidly headed toward Malden, 40 miles south of Spokane. More than 120 homes in the Malden area were destroyed including the Town Hall, Fire Department, Food Bank, Library, Post Office, and the Public Works building.
