The Montana Department of Transportation was concerned that slow moving trucks at an agricultural industry approach for grain loading facilities near Carter, MT would degrade highway operations and lead to crashes. Auxiliary lanes were needed to allow heavy vehicles to safely enter and exit the traffic stream and provide storage length on the approach between the railroad and highway. TD&H worked with MDT Great Falls District and Traffic Section staff to design right and left turn lanes and an acceleration lane for traffic from the grain loading facilities.
