Montana Avenue and Highland Street are important pedestrian routes to Jefferson Elementary School. Montana Avenue is a busy street and the existing crossing has poor visibility due to Highland Street being an offset intersection. There is currently no sidewalk along the route. Pedestrians generally walk along the street and students tend to cut through alley’s to get to the school yard quicker. Parents and residents are concerned by this trend as the alley’s are narrow and steep limiting driver visibility. Design and construct ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps for one block in each direction of the Montana Avenue and Highland Street Intersection to provide safe pedestrian walkways to Jefferson School. Design and Construct curb/sidewalk bulbouts at the offset intersection to improve pedestrian visibility to drivers and promote lower speeds due to narrowing of roadway. Design focus was to minimize impacts to adjoining property with transitions collaborated with each affected property owner.
