Employee Spotlight: Nate Young

Great Falls Office

  1. How did you first learn about TD&H? “I grew up in Great Falls and TD&H was the largest engineering firm in town. Kelly reached out through LinkedIn while I was working for a competitor.”
  2. What is your role at TD&H? “Civil Engineer and Project Manager.  Historically, I was performing municipal and development work, but lately I have taken on a Transportation role.”
  3. Before working at TD&H, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? “I am not sure if these qualify as either unusual or interesting, but I washed dishes at Tony Roma’s and the local hospital for a couple of summers in high school.  It was as gross as you can imagine.  I then upgraded to being a laborer/operator for a local landscaping company during my college years summers.  I really enjoyed working outside on nice days, however the cold windy days we get in Great Falls make me value where I am now.”
  4. What are 3 words to describe TD&H? “Friendly, Flexible, & Committed.”
  5. What do you find the most challenging at TD&H? “Every project we work on is unique and requires adapting to dynamic and evolving industry standards and requirements.”
  6. What do you like most about TD&H? “The people are great to work with and the flexibility in schedule allows for a great work-life balance, especially when you have two toddlers running around at home.”
  7. What drew you to TD&H originally? And how has TD&H changed since? “The company I was working at before TD&H was slowly downsizing, and people were either leaving or being laid-off.  I went to my supervisor, who I had a good relationship with, and mentioned to him that TD&H had contacted me for a job opening and that I was thinking about leaving.  To my surprise, he stated that he too was leaving and that if I was going to stay, I would be working under a colleague that I did not get along with.  It was an easy decision from there. TD&H is constantly looking for growth and expansion, which is an exciting part of working here.”
  8. What is your favorite part about working for TD&H? “The opportunities that management provides in expanding your career and meeting your goals.”
  9. How do you balance your career at TD&H, education and family? “I have two toddlers that can be challenging at times and balancing that with work is never easy. However, having the ability to have a flexible work schedule really helps and is one of the main reasons I value working for TD&H.”
  10. Any favorite line from a movie? “Houston, we have a problem.” – Apollo 13 or “Yo, Adrian!” – Rocky
  11. What do you like to do on your days off? “Any outdoor recreation… Fishing, boating at the cabin, rafting, hiking/climbing, hunting, skiing, among many others.”
  12. What is the first concert you attended? “I can’t recall exactly, but the last most memorable concert was Jason Aldean – 2007 Montana State Fair.”
  13. If you could be stuck in an elevator with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be? “Best answer… My wife Kari, son Landon, and daughter Kaylin. But, if I was going to get off eventually… George Strait, Neil Armstrong, & Freddie Mercury.  Imagine the conversations…”
  14. Best advice you’ve ever been given? “Stay humble; treat people as you would like to be treated.”
