Geotechnical Engineer
Job Overview:
TD&H Engineering is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and assist with geotechnical projects primarily in Montana but with occasional work in Idaho and Washington. This job opening is anticipated to be located in Great Falls, Montana; however, for a well-qualified, candidate with a Professional Engineer license, other locations in Montana may be considered.
This role focuses on geotechnical analysis, reporting, and fieldwork on a variety of infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and municipal projects. The candidate will work under the guidance of experienced project managers, all holding professional engineering licenses. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to a growing team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct subsurface investigations, including soil and rock sampling. Will require frequent travel to remote project sites lasting for a few days to a few weeks with occasional work on weekends
required for larger projects.
• Perform geotechnical analysis, including slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and lateral earth pressures.
• Interpret geotechnical laboratory test results for engineering applications.
• Prepare and organize detailed technical reports summarizing field and laboratory data, engineering analysis, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients on multiple projects ensuring timely completion.
Qualifications:
• Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) licensure is required, Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Experience with technical software such as Apile, LPile, Geostudio, etc. is preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering preferred.
• B.S. or M.S. Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Excellent organization and written/verbal communication skills.
• Experience with geotechnical fieldwork, lab testing, and reporting.
•Proven ability to multi task and manage project workload, deadlines, and clients effectively in a fast-paced environment.
•Clean driving record and willingness to travel and stay out of town on remote job sites as needed. Ability to cover the up-front cost of lodging and meals which would be reimbursed monthly.
•Physically able/willingness to perform field engineering, investigation, and other tasks on geotechnical and construction sites. Will require ability to lift up to 100 pounds and be outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions. Field work is anticipated to account for up to 50 percent of the total time for this position.
•Ability to pass a background check and periodic (random) drug and alcohol tests for access to controlled project sites.
