Sewer System Improvements – Wendell, Idaho

The City of Wendell was required to update their sewer treatment system to meet IDAPA requirements. The project included construction of a new treated effluent storage lagoon, development of a new land application site, replacement of aeration equipment, construction of a new headworks facility and collection system upgrades. Mr. Harding directed the project design which utilized the existing treatment lagoons with the addition of a 27 million gallon storage lagoon. A new 270 acre land application site was developed utilizing the existing pivot irrigation systems. The inoperable aerators were replaced and anew headworks constructed including a grinder and flow measurement weir. The 1940 feet long 12 inch trunk sewer from the City was replaced with 18 inch pipe to provide additional capacity and correct grade issues. A new 5200 feet long 12 inch sewer collection line was constructed along the south side of Interstate 84 to serve existing businesses which included a directional bore under State Highway 46. Several sewer mains within the City were replaced including within alleys where numerous undocumented utilities necessitated design revisions during construction. The project was funded by USDA Rural Development, IDEQ and IDOC Community Development Block Grant. The design and construction were completed in three phases over two years to allow continuous operation of the system.
