Whitefish West

This project involved a length of the roadway with soil variations including shall bedrock, dense gravels, and loose silts that required changes to the pavement design and slopes. A bridge structure located over the Whitefish River and the soils to depths of more than 150 feet were replaced. TD&H used different methods of subsurface investigation including borings, test pits, and geophysical exploration to assess subsurface conditions along the alignment. Borings at the bridge extended to depths of 180’ or more and were designed for an end-bearing pile system with lengths of 160 to 190’ to support the bridge structure on a dense gravel stratum.
