Your Role

As the Structural Department Manager, you will provide technical, managerial, and business leadership for the structural group. You will be responsible for expanding the department’s market presence, developing client relationships, mentoring staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality structural engineering services. Your key responsibilities include:

Department Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and grow the structural engineering department, including staffing, workload planning, and mentoring
  • Establish and support technical standards, QA/QC procedures, and best practices
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on department strategy, revenue goals, and long-term growth
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture focused on professional development and retention

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Lead and support business development efforts for structural engineering services
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with public- and private-sector clients
  • Identify new market opportunities and participate in strategic pursuits
  • Lead or support proposal development, interviews, and marketing initiatives
  • Coordinate with other department managers to pursue multidisciplinary projects

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as Engineer of Record and technical lead on complex structural projects
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation
  • Review and approve structural designs, calculations, plans, specifications, and reports
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and designers
  • Participate in construction administration and field support as needed
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a motivated leader with strong technical expertise and a passion for business development. The ideal candidate is client‑focused, collaborative, and eager to play a visible role in growing the firm’s structural engineering practice. The ideal candidate will have:

  • B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering structural focus (M.S. preferred) from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
  • 15+ years of structural engineering experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing projects and teams
  • Strong client relationship management and business development experience
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and deliver high-quality work on schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience living or working in Washington is a plus

Salary: $125,000 – $150,000 annually (excludes year-end bonus), depending on
experience, education, and qualifications.
